The area known as the Holterberg is a beautiful hilly landscape that is part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The name "Holterberg" is derived from the village of Holten in Overijssel, which is located south of this area. On the north side of the Holterberg it borders the Haarlerberg and Noetselerberg. What makes this nature reserve so special are the vast heathlands that alternate with pine forests.

An important fact to emphasize is that the Holterberg and the Hoge Veluwe are the only places in the Netherlands where you can find grouse, a rare bird species. This makes the Holterberg not only a beautiful place to enjoy nature, but also an important refuge for the protection of these special birds.
