The baroque church itself was built in the years 1717 to 1720 according to plans by the Saxon master builder David Schatz, but the tower - after the necessary funds had been obtained with a specially constructed tower lottery - only in the years 1775 to 1778 according to plans by Gerardo Hofmann. The church was destroyed in the Gera town fire in 1780 only two years later (Wikipedia).
The Salvator Church is an impressive feature of Gera's old town thanks to its elevated position. We found the church open and received interesting explanations from the supervisor. 👍
