Kayaşehir covers a total area of around 437,400 square meters. The 123,000 square meter rock-cut settlement surrounding the castle of this vast settlement alone includes a 6th-century monastery and a multi-story Byzantine rock-cut church from the first quarter of the 13th century (1215-1217).
