The smallest town hall in Belgium (Chapel van Watereynde)
This building, a chapel dedicated to Our Lady, dates from the mid-17th century.
In 1863 the municipality of Varendonk decided to turn this small chapel into a town hall.
There was so little space that at a wedding only the wedding couple, secretary and mayor could take a seat and the rest had to wait outside.
In 1956 the municipal services moved to a newly built town hall.

The smallest town hall in our country is located in the former municipality of Varendonk. What is now a small hamlet of the Veerle sub-municipality was once an independent municipality. The building was neglected for years but renovated a few years ago, with the full approval of the local residents.
