Along the mountain lakes you can pedal a bit, sometimes you have to get off. The trail is never really technical or steep. The big rocks make rolling just a bit hard. Take your time, fill your water bottle or take a dip in that lake - whatever you feel like. In this place, you’re one with the mountains. Once past the hike-a-bike section, you can see the Refuge des Drayères rising in the distance: the checkpoint of Le Pilgrimage stage 2.

This passage is not long, but it is so technical that you can only make a crossing here by lifting or pushing your bike. From the valley of Valloire, you climb a gravel road to the Col des Rochiles. You then pass several mountain lakes and, after a gravel descent, you reach the valley of Valloire, halfway up the climb of the Galibier.

I did not find much information before my outing (in gravel) so my opinion for those who are wondering: it works and it's super beautiful but it remains technical at times and over about 2km alternating rolling portions and small screes where portage is compulsory (except if you are trialing with your bike 😉). There is 1 passage where it can be complicated if you are too loaded to carry on the shoulder
