Legend has is that the water here is so green because the pixies wash their clothes in the water here. Or it might be to do with the trees. Whatever, it's an utterly lovely, slightly incongruous and therefore somewhat surprising place to spend a little time!

Legend has it that An Lochan Ulaine (which means the Green Loch) is green because pixies used to wash their clothes in it. Whether you see a pixie or not, you will find it to be a magical and beautiful place.

The green appearance of the loch is probably caused by reflected light from the trees that surround it, although legend has it that it takes on that color because elves wash their clothes in it.
