The Royal Albert Dock is a complex of dock buildings and warehouses in Liverpool, England. Designed by Jesse Hartley and Philip Hardwick, it opened in 1846 and was the first structure in Britain to be built of cast iron, brick and stone without any load-bearing timber. This made it the first non-combustible storage system in the world. It was known simply as Albert Dock until 2018, when it was granted a royal charter and the honorary title “Royal” was added to its name.

At the time of its construction, the dock was considered revolutionary in its design, as ships were loaded and unloaded directly to or from the warehouses. Two years after its opening, it was remodeled and equipped with the world's first hydraulic cranes. [3] Due to its open yet secure design, the dock became a popular storage facility for valuable cargoes such as brandy, cotton, tea, silk, tobacco, ivory and sugar. The Royal Albert Dock used to be a busy industrial port, it's now a thriving leisure area, popular with locals and tourists. On the dock you'll find the International Slavery Museum, the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Tate Liverpool & the Beatles Story. You''' also find a selection of cafes and restaurants and a nice stroll along the cobbled paths. All with nice views across the Mersey.

It's a fantastic place on Liverpool harbor. There are a lot of great buildings, museums (many without admission!) and sculptures/monuments to visit here. The whole thing is designed so that you can enjoy the whole location in a certain peace and quiet. Shops and restaurants also invite you to linger. We can recommend a relaxed breakfast here. Simply great.
