Rieti - Historical and Natural Treasures of the Region
Rieti, a passport to all the historical and natural treasures of the region.

Greccio, located in the Rieti Valley roughly halfway between Assisi and Rome, is - like some other places in the area - a popular destination for pilgrimages, especially by Francesco (Francis) of Assisi. The famous Christmas mass with the nativity scene took place in 1223 in a cave above the place where there is now a Franciscan convent (see komoot.de/highlight/361263).
