The Belém Tower is a 16th-century military construction, designed by Francisco de Arruda and Diogo de Boitaca. It played a crucial role during the Age of Discovery as a fortress and port.
Throughout its history, it has served as a prison, a lighthouse, and a tax collection center.
Together with the Jerónimos Monastery, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983

The Torre de Belém, in Lisbon, is a 16th century fortification that served as the starting and ending point of Portuguese explorers and the city's ceremonial gateway. Built during the Portuguese Renaissance, it is an example of the Manueline style, incorporating other architectural styles. Made of limestone, it consists of a bastion and a four-story tower 30 meters high.
