The monument was erected by the sculptor and headmaster Hubert Spannring in 1898 in honor of Joseph Struber, the Salzburg freedom fighter. It is a kind of towering rock, resembling a block of stone, adorned with a bronze portrait medallion, which shows Joseph Struber. The image of Strubers is venerated by a sculpted young boy in leather pants with a branch. The Salzburg state coat of arms, carved from Untersberg marble, can also be found on the stone monument.

The defenders of the Pongau in 1809 and their leader Josef Struber.

The Struber monument stands on the old pass summit of Pass Lueg. The monument was erected by the sculptor and school principal Hubert Spannring in 1898 in honor of the Salzburg freedom fighter Joseph Struber.

The monument is a towering rock resembling a stone block, adorned with a bronze portrait medallion depicting Joseph Struber. Struber's image is venerated by a fully cast young boy in lederhosen holding a branch. The stone monument also features the Salzburg coat of arms, carved from Untersberg marble. The inscription on a smoothly hewn stone reads: "To the defenders of the Pongau in 1809 and their leader, Josef Struber."

In 1809, Austria, and thus also Salzburg, was at war with France under Emperor Napoleon I. On September 25, 1809, the Salzburg Riflemen attacked the French-occupied Lueg Pass. Joseph Struber, the "innkeeper of the Stegenwald" (Stegenwald), bypassed the pass with his riflemen, coming from Werfen over the steep Tennengebirge Mountains and engaged the Franco-Bavarian troops on their flanks. The Franco-Bavarian troops were forced to abandon the pass and retreat toward Hallein. Only after the peace treaty on October 20, 1809, did he surrender the pass to the French.
