    Vorchdorf is the northernmost community in the district of Gmunden and was settled as early as the Neolithic Age because of its geographically advantageous location. Finds such as stone implements or a Roman tombstone, coins etc. are witnesses of the past.

        According to legend, the Roman Catholic Church is said to have stood on a hill in the mountains.

        After the Hungarian invasions, it was rebuilt in the current Gothic style and consecrated in 1507 by the auxiliary bishop Bernhard von Passau. Martin Resch, who was pastor of Vorchdorf from 1668 to 1704 and then abbot of Kremsmünster, began the Baroque style that lasted until the last quarter of the 18th century. At that time the church served as a pilgrimage church "Maria Trost im Thale".
