From up here you can watch a lock, the entire process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The Oldenburg lock, which connects the Hunte to the coastal canal and the West German canal network, was built between 1922 and 1928. The two lock gates were renewed in the 1990s. The chamber is 105 meters long and 12 meters wide and the difference in altitude is about 5.40 meters at low tide. The lock is fed with water from the coastal channel. For a lock, depending on the tide, between 3,700 and 7,000 cubic meters of water are required.
