The Baltic Sea resort of Boltenhagen is a municipality in the north of the Nordwestmecklenburg district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany). As a recognized seaside spa, Boltenhagen bears the title of Baltic Sea resort. The municipality belongs to the Klützer Winkel district and is part of the Hamburg metropolitan region.
To the west, the beach is joined by a cliff that is up to 35 meters high. This is a glacial rubble coast that was formed in the last Ice Age with the boulder blue clay, boulder marl, clay, chalk and rubble.

Boltenhagen is located north of the small towns of Grevesmühlen and Klütz, about 20 kilometers northwest of the Hanseatic city of Wismar and 30 kilometers northeast of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. The community is located in the Klützer Winkel directly on the Baltic Sea coast of the Boltenhagen Bay as part of the Mecklenburg Bay. The Tarnewitz peninsula with the Tarnewitzer Huk and the fishing port next to it were washed up in the 1930s by the Reich Labor Service on the remains of the former Lieps peninsula near the mainland. The fortified area served as a military test airport for testing aircraft weapons until 1945. The facility, which was currently known as the Tarnewitz testing site, was also used by the See testing site located on the Priwall.
