In the Maasduinen region, you'll find a whole host of fens. But they don't all have the same history and characteristics.
The Esven is one of the moderately nutrient-poor fens. And when I visited, it wasn't moderately dry, but almost completely dry, except for a small puddle. As you can read in the other comments, this happens quite often. And other times, it's overflowing.

But even when dry, the path along it, leading to other areas and fens, is quite pleasant.
