Friedrich von Steinberg built the Brüggen Castle in 1693 under the leadership of the architect and Wolfenbüttel court architect Herrmann Korb. Brüggen was one of the most important knights' seats in the Hildesheim region in the Middle Ages. The structure and the decorative details have Italian and Dutch influences. Inside, there is still a part of the 18th and 19th century furnishings, including various portraits of the von Steinberg family, the Guelph dynasty and related personalities. A castle tour is not possible, but the castle park, the garden café and belonging to the property farm and farm buildings are also worth seeing. Several times a year, Schloss Brüggen is home to a historic artisan market. The market is a magnet for visitors from near and far.

The 85-kilometer Royal Route is the historical connection of the possessions of former German kings and emperors of the Middle Ages in the northern Harz foreland. From the royal court in Brüggen through the Seven Mountains and the Sackwald over the Palatinate Königsdahlum, the Royal Route leads hikers through scenic areas to the Palatinate Werla. In the summer of 2005, the Royal Route with the logo of the imperial crown and a "K" was signposted and new information centers were added. The Rennstieg is a centuries-old, legendary courier route. He joined the early medieval cultural centers Hildesheim and Gandersheim. Behind the Hildesheim forest, the Rennstieg leads from the Eberholzer forest partly on the Royal Road through the Seven Mountains and the Sackwald to Winzenburg. The symbol of the mountain spirit "Hödeken" and the marking "R" shows the hiker the way through the beautiful Leinebergland.
