Used a hundred years ago as a hotel and bathing establishment, the Kirnhalden building complex was, after the Second World War, nominally a disease and quarantine station until 2012, which was primarily intended as a reception center for smallpox patients. However, since smallpox has been considered extinct since the early 1980s, the actual purpose was no longer there and the buildings were initially used temporarily by the Bruder-Diakonie as a senior center and for the care of mentally ill people.
The buildings were finally abandoned as quarantine centers in 2012, just as the epidemic protection association of the Baden city and rural districts was dissolved on this date.

Pauline monastery (today Kirnhalde)
The former Pauline taster "Zum Heiligen Kreuz" in Kirnhalden on the street Bleichheim - Freiamt can be traced back to 1360. In 1806 it was secularized. After that it had different uses. It is to be rebuilt (hotel)

Meanwhile, Kirnhalden is full of life again (see Kirnhalden.de). Around 20 people are building a residential and cultural center there.
