    Here in Cologne, however, his work in the period before Nazi rule is particularly honored, because KONRAD ADENAUER was the mayor of Cologne. In this capacity, he played a key role in ensuring that, after the demolition of the ring of fortifications that once protected the city, new residential or commercial buildings were not built there, but rather that the green belt that is now highly valued for recreational purposes was created.

      Konrad Adenauer monument in Cologne is a memorial dedicated on 1 July 1995 and dedicated to Konrad Adenauer monument. It is located at the crossroads Apostein- and Mittelstraße northwestern of the Neumarkt. The bronze sculpture is 2.30 meters high and 400 kg without base. It cost 500,000 DM and was financed by the donations of the "Committee for the Construction of the Adenauer Monument at the Neumarkt in Cologne" founded in 1987.
      The artist, to whom the committee wanted to award the contract, died before he received the commission. The contract was then awarded to Karl Wimmer from Munich, who began in 1991 with the design of the artwork and died in the same year. The statue without a head completed his pupil Gerd Weiland.
      The former Lord Mayor of the City of Cologne, President of the Prussian Council of State and Chancellor is depicted in a larger than life coat, which makes his head appear small. In his right hand he is holding a hat.

        At the Apostelnkirche near the Neumarkt stands a very simple figure of probably the most important man in Cologne in the 20th century. As Conrad Hermann Joseph Adenauer born on January 5, 1876 as a true Cologne, Konrad Adenauer was from 1949 to 1963, the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany after the end of the Second World War. In a dual role, he was also responsible for the foreign affairs of 1951-55. The ministerial office of the foreign minister did not exist at this time. However, Adenauer's history has been closely linked to the history of Cologne long before he became Federal Chancellor.
        In 1917, Konrad Adenauer was elected as the youngest mayor of a major German city. After the lost World War I he ordered that the old Prussian fortress ring of Cologne was converted into the still existing green belt.
