The Evangelical Reformed parish of Breitenbach includes five villages: Breitenbach with the three parishes of Gehau, Machtlos and Oberjossa and the independent parish of Hatterode.
Breitenbach is the patronage community of the von Dörnberg family and the current patron is Baron Jürgen von Dörnberg. With the exception of Oberjossa, all villages have their own church. The largest and youngest church in the parish is in Breitenbach (approx. 600 seats, built 1856-1858). Inside there is a stone sun cross. Those interested in technology will be enthusiastic about the mechanical tower clock.
