Rudy offers an interesting attraction for narrow-gauge railway enthusiasts. Although the original station has not survived in its entirety, you can still see fragments of the old infrastructure, including the preserved locomotive shed building. The narrow-gauge line, which reached Rudy in the late 19th century, was an important element of local transport. The currently preserved section of the route can be an interesting point on a bicycle trip, allowing you to discover the history of the region.

The narrow-gauge railway in Rudy appeared at the end of the 19th century. The station in Rudy Wielkie, the largest on the entire line, was located halfway along the route
and included, among other things, rolling stock repair workshops. The main building had two floors with an attic and was partly made of half-timbered walls. It housed the stationmaster's office, a signal box, a waiting room and a shelter for the conductor's teams. Two large station halls were intended for locomotives
and wagons. Currently, only a section of the railway from Stanica, through Rudy to Paproć and the Rybnik Stodoły station remains. The original station building in Rudy has not survived (a later structure now stands there), while the buildings in Stanica and Paproć lost their appearance after war damage and inept reconstructions. However, the locomotive shed building has survived.

The railway in Rudy Wielkie appeared on March 25, 1899. At that time, a narrow-gauge line (track width 785 mm) from Gliwice through Nieborowice, 23.51 km long, was put into operation. This was the first stage of the project to extend the railway line all the way to Racibórz. On 28 February 1901, the railway track reached the town of Paproć. On 1 April of the following year, a further section from Paproć to Markowice Raciborskie was put into operation. The last section of the line built in stages was brought to Plani (now Płonia) – a district of Racibórz on 17 May 1903. The entire route
from Gliwice to Racibórz through Bojków, Nieborowice, Pilchowice, Stanice, Rudy, Szymocice, Nędza and Babice was 51 km long in total. Almost exactly in the middle of the 51 km long route, the station in Rudy Wielkie was located, the largest on the entire line. There were rolling stock repair shops, parking tracks for wagons and locomotives, a steam locomotive maintenance point and a track triangle for turning them.
