The Old Railway Station in Katowice - the building of the Katowice railway station was built in the 1850s (originally commissioned in 1859) at Dworcowa Street.
It was rebuilt several times (especially at the beginning of the 20th century, in the years 1906–1908 and in the 1920s).
For decades, it was the most important railway facility in Upper Silesia.
After World War II, it turned out to be too small and a decision was made to build a new station, which was put into use in 1972.
The complex of buildings of the former station is made up of the station halls and accompanying buildings, including the former office and residential buildings, restaurants and waiting rooms.
The complex was built in 1906 in the style of historical modernism. The originally neoclassical central part had one floor and two side projections with two floors. After 1925, the central part was extended by another two floors, and a little later the side breaks were also added, giving the entire central part the features of a modernist style.
