“SO, SO, A CATTLE GUILD”
... was what Uwe Kiesewein often had to listen to when he was looking for supporters for his ambitious project in mid-1987. But he and the first interested parties were not put off by the pitying shaking of their heads.
The plan was to buy German Angus cattle and place them generously on 1 hectare of pastureland each, which was leased in Kollow. At the same time, the biodiversity on the previously intensively cultivated arable land was to be restored.

On February 22, 1988, the Geesthacht Cattle Guild was founded! 14 members came together and committed themselves to financing the first animals with an annual contribution and to guaranteeing their well-being through regular grazing service.
At first a little timid but increasingly brave, the four German Angus young animals explored their new home on May 1, 1988. After just a few days, they were romping around the pasture quite exuberantly, carefully observed by the cattle guild's pasture service managers.

The initial skepticism gave way surprisingly quickly to the conviction that something big could happen here on a small scale. In June 1988, there were already 21 active members, and just under a year later there were 52 official guild members, all supported by their families and friends. Today the number has settled at over 200 members.

Over the years, even vegetarians joined, for whom the nature conservation aspect was so important that they indulged the meat-eaters' appetite for the best organic meat.
