Even if museums conserve - some are still not conservative, but surprising and changeable. Here you can walk open air through art history, past works by Rodin to sculptures by today's artists.

The heart of the museum is a castle that serves as a reception area. A cozy brasserie and a museum shop invite you when you're thirsty for coffee and souvenirs. Here you can start your tour or let it linger.

In the garden you will find the half-open pavilion "Het Huis", which protects fragile exhibits without taking them out of the context of the garden. Valuable ceramics by the German artist Thomas Schütte are still part of nature without being exposed to it.

Other internationally renowned artists also created new works especially for the expansion and renovation of the museum, including Ai Weiwei (China), Roman Signer (Switzerland) and Philippe Van Snick (Belgium).

Soft green in spring, rich summer colors, strong yellow and red in autumn and the subtle winter white are the picturesque background for the outstanding collection of modern and contemporary visual arts. The museum's holdings now include more than 400 works and give you a nice overview of the period from 1900 to today.

The Middelheim Museum is 30 hectares in size. This makes it one of the largest museums in Flanders. The art park has changed many times over the years. Works of art were given a new place, park zones were redesigned and expanded. Not only the art collection, but also the park with its castle and pavilions has its own story. A total of 224 works of art were given a new place in the free Open Air Museum.

Be inspired by modern masters and artists of today and relax in this historic green oasis on the outskirts of Antwerp.
