Due to the redesign of the Rotteckring, the Colombi Castle is currently undergoing an enormous urban development upgrade. It is located on a small hill that was created by the French fortifications in the Vauban style during their occupation of Freiburg in the 17th century. As of 2022: The four-lane thoroughfare in front of the castle has now disappeared. This means that the park around the property is now a place of peace in the middle of Freiburg. With vineyard!
From southern Baden's oldest works of art to medieval Freiburg: the Archaeological Museum, built in 1859/61 in the Colombischlössle manor house, invites its visitors on a journey through time. The neo-Gothic villa houses statuettes of women from the Stone Age, mysterious moon idols from the Bronze Age and treasures from Celtic royal tombs. Archaeological finds show how people lived in Freiburg in the Middle Ages. Models and parallel events illuminate the living conditions of each era.
