The stately half-timbered building is said to have been built between 1700 and 1750; a previous building standing there was significantly smaller. Archaeologists uncovered the remains of the old mill weir from the latter in 2000. Because at that time the municipality had a new mill wheel installed as a display on the east gable of the mill.

Using the power of moving water to drive a mill wheel is an ancient invention of the human spirit of discovery, the origin of which can be traced back to times long past. There are essentially two drive variants for water mills:
