The place where the fortress once stood is indicated by low walls. In the middle of the indicated place is a fixed flag. The markings and the flag can be seen from the Fortdijk.

Fort Sint-Livinus was built in 1634 by the Spanish. It is a simple, square defense structure that was built in the sea wall at the time. Architectural interpretation: The courtyard was enclosed by a more than 10 meter wide moat with a bridge over it. Experts are not yet sure whether the courtyard was surrounded by a wall, but compaction of the soil around the courtyard may indicate this. In the center of the fort was a guardhouse, a kind of watchtower.
These guard posts were part of a chain of defenses.
From the watchtowers the watchman could survey the flooded landscape.

The fort was built around 1634 by the Spanish and came into the hands of the State in 1645. Fort Sint-Livinus is a fortress that is part of the Line of Communication between Hulst and Sas van Gent
