The reservation of steppe peonies is considered by connoisseurs as "the only place inside the Carpathian arc where this plant grows". The place, Zau de Campie, on the road between Ludus and Beclean, in Mures county, is worth visiting in May, when the peonies bloom. Paeonia tenuifolia popularly called "steppe peony", has a height of 10-30 cm, with bright red flowers. This area was closed and considered a nature reserve, because Zau de Campie is the northernmost point in Romania where this species is found. The surface of this nature reserve is 2.5 hectares, being declared a natural monument since 1932. The first data about peonies from Zau are published in 1846 in Vienna. "The person who saved her from destruction (1944) now 86 years old, protected her, expanded her area to 3.5 ha., Assured her a reputation, her name is Sancraian Marcu." The reservation is located 5 kilometers from the center of Mures commune and was founded in 1932 by academician Alexandru Borza, considered the founder of the Romanian school of botany.
