It is the gateway to the Ancient Noto (a city destroyed by the earthquake of 1693). At its side, the ruins of the castle and the old surrounding walls are clearly visible.
It can be reached in a short time both from the SS287, both from Testa dell'Acqua, or from the climb of Durbo.

Noto antica or Netum, is the ancient town of Noto destroyed following the earthquake of 11 January 1693. Municipium under Roman rule, head of the valley from Arab domination onwards and adorned with the title of Civitas ingeniosa by Ferdinand the Catholic, it was home of many prominent elements between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries, as well as one of the main cultural, military and economic centers of south-eastern Sicily. Surrounded by imposing walls (many of which are still standing) and by deep valleys of Mount Alveria, it was never taken by force. Only nature did it!! I recommend going into the only way to go and back that leads to the church at the end of the city. The view to the sea is worth it!!
