        A little information from the internet:

        Historical profile

        Built around the time of the Christianization of the local region in the 8th/9th century AD.
        On one side, the attacking Franks, on the other, the defending Saxons.
        Largest historic double ring wall system in northwest Germany.
        Perimeter of the outer, three- to four-meter-high ring wall: 980 m.
        Perimeter of the inner, five- to six-meter-high ring wall: 630 m.
        Total area: approx. 7 hectares
        Walls were secured by palisades and gates.
        Southern protection provided by the moor. Wing walls extended to natural wetlands in the east and west.
        Protection for many thousands of people
        Expression of power and control over a nearby trade route.
