The Caligo tower was an ancient fortress that stood in the current town of Jesolo; it was located west of the capital, on the banks of the Caligo canal, which branches off from the Sile just before. It was probably built on a previous building from the imperial era. The defensive system was used to monitor a strategic area, controlling the direct channels into the lagoon and the surrounding cultivated countryside.
