The health department of the district of Oldenburg regularly checks the quality of the bathing water. The bathing lake has been awarded three stars, which means that the lake has excellent bathing water quality. The municipality announced that the first water samples have been taken since mid-May. No microbiological loads were found. The bathing water is also bacteriologically perfect. The gravel-rich, clear bathing lake also offers no habitat for algae. The measurement results, the pH value, the water and air temperature, and the visibility depth of the body of water are published on the homepage of the district of Oldenburg and on that of the Lower Saxony State Health Office. In addition, the latest test results are displayed at the kiosk for everyone to see.
The beautifully situated, large bathing lake, with a kiosk, 130 meters of bathing beach, beach volleyball court, sanitary facilities and sufficient parking space, is available to visitors for relaxing hours. The parking fee is one euro per vehicle.
On the weekends and during the summer holidays, bathing operations within the bathing area marked by orange buoys are monitored by the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) or by the indoor pool staff in good bathing weather. If the lifeguard is on site, a red and yellow flag will be hoisted. The municipality points out that on the other days and outside the marked area, bathing in the Westerholt bathing lake is always at your own risk. Especially the different water temperatures and the cliffs under water require increased caution when using the bathing lake.
In this context, the municipal administration also points out that camping, open fire and staying after 10 p.m. are not permitted on the grounds of the bathing lake. Furthermore, the area of the bathing lake is closed to dogs and horses.
