The Oosthof in Jabbeke is a historic site that was originally a central farm. It was built in 941 and was the seat of a Merovingian royal domain from which Bruges later emerged. The monumental entrance gate, dating from the 16th century, and a preserved part of the original ramparts give an idea of this historical heritage. In 1962 the Oosthof was listed as a protected monument.

"Het Oosthof" of Snellegem is one of the oldest and most imaginative farms in the region. The impressive farmhouse, the entrance gate and the moat bear witness to the importance of the site in the history of Snellegem. "Het Oosthof" was the central farm of the tax authorities Snellegem, probably the oldest core of the royal domain from the Merovingian period.
