NOSFERATU - A milestone in film history at the Wismar filming location.

What we take for granted today, that vampires cannot tolerate light, goes back to the film "Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror", which was filmed in Wismar in 1921. The old Hanseatic city served as the backdrop for the fictional Wisborg. Director Friedrich Wilhelm-Murnau filmed on location at locations that can still be visited in their original form today.

Wismar, with its harbor and the adjacent old town, offered the ideal conditions for the implementation of most of the film scenes in a small space. The film begins with the view from the tower of St. Mary's Church of the market square and the waterworks. The old harbor, where Count Orlok reaches Wisborg by ship and goes through the water gate into the old town, is also part of the film. Other typical settings are the inner courtyard of the Holy Spirit Church and St. George's Church.

Nosferatu - filming locations in Wismar

Wismar, with its harbor and adjacent old town, offered the ideal conditions for the implementation of most of the film scenes for the silent film Nosferatu. This location can still be visited today. In Wismar plaques remind of the shooting to this day.
