The New Bamberg Ortsbefestigung
In 1320, Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian took the town and its castle under his protection and granted him the same rights and freedoms as the city of Oppenheim. With the privilege of freedom was also the right connected to surround the place with walls and ditches. The then built city walls are mentioned in 1668. At that time Palatine Karl Ludwig demanded right of way through Neu-Bamberg. When he was prohibited by Mainz officials - Mainz had pledged lien in the village and castle during these years - the Count Palatine Neu-Bamberg intervened, plundered the town and demolished walls and towers.

Kandel gate:
Of the three gates of the former town fortifications, only the Kandelpforte is preserved. The rectangular gate tower with semicircular corner extensions on risalites, round arch friezes and coats of arms dates from the 14th century. Roof and hood roof riders were put on in the 18th century. The arched gate, which was originally closed by a portcullis, was raised in 1906. Some remains of the medieval wall ring have been installed in houses.
