      Interesting facts about the border town of Oberholzklau

      Oberholzklau lies at an altitude of approximately 350-400 meters, surrounded by magnificent nature, inviting for hiking, exploring, and relaxing. Our village was first mentioned in 1079. The brothers Gerung and Heribert(us) donated a certain property located in the parish of "Holzkla" to the Abbey of Deutz (near Cologne) in honor of the Holy Mother of God and Saint Heribertus. About 200 years later, the Oberholzklau Church was built, one of the most beautiful hall churches in South Westphalia. The oldest bell in our church bears the date 1512. Under Count William the Rich, the Oberholzklau congregation became Lutheran in 1531. Count John VI introduced the Reformed doctrine in 1578. A new rectory (the current old one) was built in 1608. It is one of the oldest half-timbered houses in the Siegerland region, and certainly one of the most beautiful. Directly opposite stands the "AI döwwern Hus" from roughly the same period.         From the Gallows between Hünsborn and Oberholzklau

        Probably only a few citizens are aware that in the 17th century, three gallows stood in the Oberholzklau district. The first was intended for Fischers Johannes from Fickenhütten, who was pardoned shortly before his execution. The second, built around 1009, was popularly known as "Peterchen's Gallows" because a quarter of Peter Cramer from Freudenberg was supposedly hanged on it. "Peterchen" was said to have helped steal a cart of kettles in the village and also committed murder. The Siegen executioner, Master Josten, had his head struck on in Alchen and then his body quartered. He then had the four parts hung along four country roads as a deterrent. on the Heeskragen in front of the "Holzklauer Schlag," on the Hohen Hain, at the Krombacher Schlag, and on the Rahrbacher Höhe. On June 25, 1662, the gallows (Peterchen's Gallows) standing on Nassau soil in front of the Holzklauer Schlag was secretly cut down.
