A number of Pella's public buildings have been uncovered since excavations began in the 1950s. The agora and the surrounding buildings were uncovered from the former urban area and the palace to the north of it on the acropolis. However, only a few blocks of houses, "insulae", have been excavated from the residential areas. The excavation work is still going on. The large pebble stone mosaics are among the most impressive finds.
