John of Nepomuk was born around 1350 in Pomuk near Pilsen/Czech Republic. As vicar general of the Prague bishop, he became involved in political disputes with the Bohemian King Wenceslas IV. According to legend, he refused to break the seal of confession and was drowned in the Vltava in 1393. As the patron saint of sailors and raftsmen, he stands on bridges to protect against water hazards. This modern Nepomuk figure by Wolfgang Wright from Kiefersfelden was inaugurated in 2008.

The 1.80 meter tall bronze statue will be created by the renowned sculptor Wolfgang Wright. The bridge saint does not cost the community a cent, because an anonymous donor provides the funds. The commissioned sculptor, painter and draftsman Wolfgang Wright was born in 1959 in Mülheim/Ruhr. He underwent training as a restorer in the stucco trade. He later studied sculpture at the Art Academy in Munich. The artist lives and works in Oberaudorf (Rosenheim district).
