STONE CROSS 17th century
Up until the criminal law reform of 1532, murder and manslaughter could also be atoned for by private agreement, with the perpetrator e.g. had a cross erected at the site of the event (so-called stone or atonement cross). The reason for the erection of this stone cross with the initials CE and the year 161 (?) is not yet known. It can be assumed that, based on the centuries-old tradition of atonement crosses, such stone crosses were also erected after 1532, but no longer as a sign of atonement, but as a memorial to a misfortune. There are a number of legends surrounding both the Lindererbach and the Steinkreuz.
