An exceptional site, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert is a village built around the Abbey of Gellone. It is sometimes nicknamed "The Occitan Mont Saint Michel". It was, and remains, an important step on the way to Santiago de Compostela. It is also a starting point for beautiful hikes in the surrounding massif.
You can access by this road to the car park and even to the large square of the village where you will find fountains, cafes and various stalls, and also enjoy the shade of the imposing plane tree, 160 years old. To stroll through the alleys of the village, you will have to get off the bike.
Obviously, it is a highly touristic site, so it can be very crowded during high season, and it is probably better to go in low season.
Finally, I realized when I came back to it that the waterfall I had had the chance to photograph only flowed intermittently, in the spring until May depending on the year.

Classified (and rightly so) among the most beautiful villages in France, the village is up to now accessible by bike, with the marvelous view of the abbey and the waterfall.
