The district southwest of Nauen was first mentioned in documents in 1173. After the changing ownership of various noblemen finally Peter von Itzenplitz owner of the Good Groß Behnitz. He had it built around 1800 above the lake Groß Behnitzer a befitting mansion in the Italian Renaissance style. Under Peter von Itzenplitz, Groß Behnitz became a meeting place for artists and scholars such as Carl von Savigny and Albrecht Thaer.
