On the Weiße Düne, Mardorf's Mayor Hubert Paschke and Neustadts climate protection manager Martin Schultze have put a special bank into operation together with holiday pass children. The so-called smart bench has no backrest, but in the seat sunken photovoltaic modules. These provide solar power for a battery storage, through which devices such as smartphones or tablets can be charged. "This is a Steinhuder Meer a hitherto unique, attractive offer," said Paschke.
Stadtwerke and city administration also see Solarbank as an advertising medium for their services in the photovoltaic sector. "Decentralized energy generation has the charm that makes it possible to experience the production and use of storm," explains Stadtwerkesprecherin Gabriele Steinert. The Smart-Bench can do even more: It registers temperature, humidity and displays the state of charge and the load of connected devices. The idea is to connect them to the free Wi-Fi network.
There are already several such benches in the entire Hannover region, all bearing the imprint "Chillen.Chatten.Chargen". Translated means resting, communicating, charging - now also on the beach on the Steinhuder Meer.
