In 1877 the miller August Scholkemeyer, who came from the watermill in nearby Apelnstedt, had this Dutch mill built. The mill tower was built by the local master mason Bögershausen, the actual mill by the mill construction company Max Erhardt from Wolfenbüttel. Erhardt had taken over the well-known Mühlenbauanstalt of Luther & Peters at Wolfenbütteler Schulwall two years earlier.
The mill received 2 Mahlgänge, a shotgun, various sieving and cleaning machines and time according to iron wheels.
In 1929, the bricklayer August Habekost leased the mill from Scholkemeyer. His wife Helene Habekost inherited the mill in 1937 after Scholkemeyer's death. Meanwhile, a diesel engine had been purchased, which drove the mill in windless conditions. In 1956, miller Walter Habekost shut down the last mill, which was only operated by a motor.
In 1983 the "Förderverein zur Förderung der Windmühle am Bungenstedter Turm e.V." was founded and had the mill extensively restored from 1988, whereby it received a new cap and in 1992 new wings. Since then, the mill has been a working technical monument, occasionally ground for demonstration purposes. A special feature, but earlier to find at several Holländer mills in Wolfenbütteler radius, is the so-called "Gaffelrad" on the back of the cap, with which the mill cap is turned by hand in front of the wind.
