Fire Wave is a structure of striped sandstone. The wave like shape is a result of erosion from wind and water over the last 150 million years. The unique colors or "stripes" come from oxidation of iron and manganese contained in the rock.

Easy to reach sight. Entrance opposite parking 3. The trail is signposted. You can not get lost. Very nice the color play of the different sandstone formations.

The Fire Wave Trail is a easy 2.7 km hike to to an amazing sandstone formation resembling an ocean wave.
With its beautiful backdrop this is one of the best of the easy accessable hikes in the park. The trail is sandy at the beginning of the hike and transitions into sandstone. Rock cairns (small stacks of rocks) lead the way on the sandstone to the Fire Wave.
