For most of the year, the Diebelbach seems to be a harmless stream. However, the water level changes drastically during heavy rainfall. This often led to flooding. In order to be able to better control the floods, flood areas are to be identified in the city of Augsburg along the Diebelbach. These floods are to be stopped with the ramparts behind the Leitenberg near Straßberg.

The Diebelbach is a 12-kilometer-long spring stream in Bavarian Swabia that rises in the Western Forests west of Straßberg, a district of the town of Bobingen. Its course takes it north of Bannacker into the Wertach Plain, further south of Bergheim and along the outskirts of Neubergheim, until it finally flows into the Wertach at the Gögginger Bridge.

Although the Diebelbach is an inconspicuous body of water for most of the year, it can quickly swell after heavy rainfall and cause flooding, which has led to flooding in the past. In order to be able to control these better, flood areas have been designated along the Diebelbach in the Augsburg urban area.

There are valuable wetlands along the Diebelbach that provide a habitat for rare species such as the tree frog. The numerous pollarded willows along the stream are also characteristic of the landscape.

The Diebelbach valley offers attractive routes for hikers and nature lovers. A recommended tour leads through the Teufelstal and the ponds near Burgwalden, passing the Diebelbach.

The Diebelbach is therefore an important body of water in the Augsburg region, which offers ecologically valuable habitats and is also used for recreational activities.
