The castle initially consisted only of a keep with a side length of about 13 meters and formed together with the fountain and the count house the first stage of expansion. Next followed the expansion of the Roisthauses, smithy, bakery and castle chapel. Probably in the last phase of construction in the 15th century, the walling of the core castle, so that the outer courtyard was created with the garden. The castle well, which was uncovered between 1981 and 1985 by the Plettenberger Rifle Society, has a depth of 26 meters. Still recognizable today is the visible on the east side of the former Backhauses outdoor toilet. Foundations of the Drostenhaus, a round rise and the Kurfürstenhaus are preserved as well as the Backhauses and parts of the keep with the aforementioned well.
