                        History of the Damascus Room
                        The wall and ceiling paneling, made around 1810/11 (1225 AD), adorned the reception room of an old Damascus house until 1899. The elaborate decoration of the room, consisting of 113 individual pieces, reflects the wealth, elevated social status, education, and self-image of its wealthy previous owners, who belonged to the Muslim part of the population of Damascus. Since its dismantling in Damascus, all components of the room are now being presented here in Saxony for the first time in their original colors and ornamental complexity. The painted wooden boards made the room cozy.

                        The individual pieces are 200 years old - the restoration in Dresden took 25 years.
