The listed Groß Lujaer Church was built from 1898 to 1899 as a neo-Gothic hall church made of brick. Inside it has a horseshoe gallery and a Sauer organ.

In the Meißner diocese register of 1346 Groß Luja is mentioned for the first time as Loyow. The founding of the town was set for the year 1495, after the Bishop of Meissen had a revised directory prepared for the church districts under his authority. Groß Luja is therefore one of the old village foundations in the Spremberg region.
Groß Luja, Wendish Logow, refers to the soil conditions in the derivation of the place name. In earlier times it may have been quite loamy and swampy here. There are still ponds in meadows today. From the layout of the village street you can see that this is a Wendish settlement. The landmark of Groß Luja is the church. A wooden church once stood here, followed by a fieldstone building. A church register of births dates back to 1690 and refers to family names, some of which are still used today
available. In 1898 a neo-Gothic brick building was erected on the site of the smaller medieval church. The sound of the Sauer organ can still be heard today. A CD of this is available from the Spremberg Tourist Information.
