She stands there proudly, in the middle of the field between Aubing and Germering. Built entirely from silver fir and stone pine, the so-called Holzknecht Chapel immediately catches the eye, with no frills and simple with a steep roof.
The chapel, which was officially inaugurated in September 2020, was built by the “Aubinger Holzknechte” out of gratitude. With the chapel they want to send God’s reward to heaven, because we all live in a time of prosperity, in peace and security.
It was clear to the lumberjacks from the beginning that their chapel should be a simple, unpretentious building. They didn't want a splendid building. The wooden construction should fit in well with the nature in which it stands, be a part of it.
The simple exterior continues seamlessly in the interior. There is a statue of Mary and a statue of James on the walls. A Jesus figure hangs in a cross-shaped window through which you can see the Germeringen skyline. And then there is the altar - a roughly 700 kilo part of a huge ash trunk, flattened at the top with a tree of life on the front, carved by Pia Eisenhut.
