The landgrave's pavilion was built in 1791 as a residence for Landgrave Wilhelm IX, later Elector Wilhelm I. From 1814 the Landgrave House served as a hotel, restaurant and coffee shop. In 1934 a fire destroyed the building. It was rebuilt in almost the original historical style in 1936.

Elector's summer residence
With the creation of the spa park in 1787, Bad Nenndorf became a popular destination. Landgrave Wilhelm IX also recognized this. from Hesse-Kassel. He had the Landgrave's house built just a few years after the town was developed. It was to serve as his summer residence. Other prominent guests were also attracted by the presence of the later elector, which gave the place an additional boost. The most well-known guests, some of whom also resided in the Landgrave's house, include famous writers such as Goethe, Schiller and Herder. However, the elector was not able to enjoy the landgrave's house for long. It was not fully completed until 1806.

Just one year later, French troops marched into town and took possession of the little castle. Jérôme Bonaparte, the new King of Westphalia, became a new resident. He also introduced mud bathing to the town, which is now a widely recognized spa treatment. In 1934 there was a fire that completely destroyed the building. Luckily, the building plans from 1791 were still in possession, so the Landgrave's house could be rebuilt almost true to the original. As before the fire, the building has since been used as a coffee house again. You can also visit the building during fixed opening hours.
