Between 1985 and 1989, 27 sculptors created 27 works from the locally occurring ferrous sandstone Pietra serena on the subject of "columns", each about 4.50 meters high and about 1.00 meters in diameter. The columns were arranged in a spiral 44 meters in diameter and the park was provided with accompanying sculptures. The project was conceived and realized by the sculptors Mauro Berrettini and Pietro Cascella and the sculptor Cordelia von den Steinen.
