The port of Bisceglie is of the fishing-tourist type. In defense of the basin which is spread over an area of approximately 100,000 m², there are the western pier (new pier) and the eastern dam (Bourbonic pier).
The port is located near the ancient core of the city, which overlooks it, constituting its characterizing element [8]. Inside the port basin there is a small islet called "La Cassa", which emerges with some bollards [9].

In the 11th century, while Trani was drafting its famous Ordinamenta Maris (maritime statutes), the Biscegliese navy stipulated commercial agreements with the eastern countries with which it came into contact. This attests to the presence of a significant seafaring community that lived around the port. In this historical context it should be noted that among the sailors of the enterprise in the Nicolaiana translation there was the Biscegliese Stefano da Bisceglia.
A document dated 1211 refers to a commercial agreement between Bisceglie and Ragusa di Dalmatia (today's Dubrovnik) dating back to the Norman period. This agreement reciprocally guaranteed to the sailors of both cities the exemption of certain taxes on the goods sold and the exemption of port dues.
